“Northern Samarka” is the largest training ground in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, created in the 1970s. These are more than 30 hectares of land near the village of Samarka of the Vsevolozhsk district. In 2020, according to plans, he was supposed to accept a quarter of all St. Petersburg garbage - about 400 thousand tons of municipal waste, as well as 90 thousand tons of the same waste from two regions of the region. In addition, about a million tons of soils from construction and construction waste are brought to the landfill annually.

For several years, residents of the region have been actively advocating the closure of the training ground. Protesters even recorded appeals to Vladimir Putin, but local authorities have not yet reacted to protests.
