Update. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which oversees the creation of Sputnik V, reported that this vaccine showed over 90% effectiveness in people over 60 years old, Interfax writes .

The head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said that his department allowed the use of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine for people over 60 years of age during mass vaccination. He stated this on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel.

The Sputnik V vaccine is now approved for use in people aged 18 and over. Thus, citizens over 60 years of age can now also be vaccinated against coronavirus infection.

According to Murashko, studies have confirmed that the use of the vaccine is safe for older people.

• The Sputnik V vaccine was developed at the Gamaleya National Research Center. The overall effectiveness of the drug is estimated at 91.4% ( against severe cases - 100%). Center director Alexander Gintsburg said earlier that vaccine trials in people over 60 years of age are planned to be completed in mid-2021.
• Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier in December that he had not yet been vaccinated against coronavirus infection, since he was over 60 years old.
