UAC: equipment unrelated to its purpose was stolen from the “Doomsday Plane”

The equipment stolen from the Il-80 Doomsday aircraft in Taganrog was not related to its direct functional purpose. This was reported to TASS in the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

“All special equipment was dismantled from the aircraft immediately upon arrival and is stored in special rooms. As a result of the incident, a number of units of secondary equipment disappeared, ”the corporation specified.

Now security has been strengthened at the Taganrog-Yuzhny airfield.

The equipment from the plane, intended for the evacuation of government officials in case of danger, was stolen in early December. 39 blocks and five radio boards disappeared from the aircraft during a scheduled repair. The investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Taganrog reported that the damage amounted to more than a million rubles.

Il-80, which is called the "doomsday aircraft", is also known as the "air command post". Since 1987, only four such liners have been produced. In the event of war, the Il-80 must take on board the top military leadership and ensure uninterrupted command and control of the Russian Armed Forces.
