In Chelyabinsk, the ex-coordinator of Navalny’s headquarters was detained due to “Watchman control”

In Chelyabinsk, the ex-coordinator of the local headquarters of Navalny Alexander Belyaev was detained. He himself informed OVD-Info about this.

The activist was first detained for drinking alcohol in a public place, when he and his friends celebrated his birthday in the city center. He was taken to the police department, a protocol was drawn up and released. An hour and a half later, they came to his house, explaining that he was in the Surveillance Control, and took him to the police department. On the way to the department, the officer claimed that Belyaev could be taken to the FSB. Now the detainee is in the Central Department of Internal Affairs. As long as nothing is charged to him.

“Surveillance control” refers to the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in which activists and public figures are registered to monitor them. Those whom the security forces consider “potential extremists” are entered into the database, lawyer Maria Sernovets explained.

When asked by Belyaev what the “Surveillance Control” is, and for what he was formally detained, the officer replied that it was “something like a search”:

“We don’t have a reason, you see. We are not given this information. If everything is ok...
