The observation diary ”, in which the author comments and analyzes each series of all three seasons of the series David Lynch, as well as the full -length film“ Twin Pixes: Fire, go with me ”and carved scenes. The series has three parts:

3) 1956, a creature with wings hatches in the desert of New Mexico. The guy escorts the girl home, she finds a coin with the profile of Lincoln. A black lumberjack appears, penetrates on the radio studio - kills everyone there, pronounces quatrains into the microphone, listeners plunge into a trance. At this moment, a winged creature crawls into the girl’s mouth.

Twin Pixes - a series about the global categories of good and evil. A nuclear explosion is an image of absolute evil, intuitively understandable to any person. Obviously, Lynch pays special attention to him - after all, a photograph with this very explosion hangs on the wall of the cabinet of Gordon Cole, the character he played, in the FBI. It is extremely important that Lynch gives the exact place and time of the explosion (for him-a rarity, such a temporal and spatial scrupulousness is not even in his two films on real events, “Man-slope” and “Simple story”). Thus, we are sent to the root cause of this evil, by the time of his birth. Further events also go back to the root cause of events, the genesis of good and evil. It is also significant that we are talking about a specific moment in the history of the United States: nuclear weapons were first used by Americans, abstract force became a source of specific evil.

This again proves that “Twin Pix” is a saga about America, and Lynch is not such a mystic tile as they like to represent it. It would probably be ridiculous to see the allegory of the atomic war on Twin Picks. But it is quite legal to believe that the language he has chosen is a way to speak of the real injuries of the inhabitants of a particular country. Lumberjacks are not so abstract. Their appearance is “white garbage”, the stained daughter of coal dust “black”, in appearance - proletarians or homeless. In their jeans, ears, checkered shirts, they visually represent “lower” America, its evil, dark, aggressive background.

The central place in the series is occupied by the history of the origin of Bob and Laura, two opposites. If Bob represents an evil force spontaneously born of a “big explosion” (which was evil itself), then Laura is an answer artificially created by the Higher Forces, a counterweight. This is particularly emphasized by the golden color of it. On Twin Picks, as we recall from the shovels of Dr. Usilka , he symbolizes the victory over difficulties. They show us: if Bob is more than the mortal essence (and therefore not to kill Mr. Si, in which the spirit of Bob lives), then Laura is not just a schoolgirl from Twin Pix. So, her murder was not a simple murder. And is it possible to finally kill her? “I am dead, but I live,” Laura told the agent Cooper in Black Wigwam.

This has never been pronounced in Twin Picks, but there is every reason to assume that the black and white building in which the giant lives can be the very white Wigwam, about which we were talked about so much without once showing it. In any case, a good giant lives here, and Laura, like an agent of good, is also born here. An inexplicable golden instrument can be mistaken for an angel pipe. By the way, on Twin Picks, leading music parties were most often entrusted to the spirit, saxophone or pipe. The giant creates Laura. Unlike evil spirits, which can only threaten and destroy, and neutral spirits, which are limited to warnings, he can create something. Therefore, it is logical to see God in him, as in his partner Seniority Daido, who inhales his kiss in the golden ball of Laura.

Behind the second part of [series] follows the third, final. The least understandable. The second date does not have specific (at least obvious) correlations in reality, but it returns us to specificity, to a certain place and time. We are in America again. The DJ on the radio starts the song of The Platters “My Prayer” (“My Prayer”), written in 1939, but soared to the tops of the charts in August 1956. This is a ballad about love, so accurately corresponding to the dreams of the nameless heroes of the episode - a boy and a girl. It sounds in the Linchic expressive turn “a dream that dam”, “Divine Dream”. It is also funny that one of the members of The Platters was a man named David Lynch (who has nothing to do with his namesake, creator Twin Pixes).

Walking with the boy, the girl finds Penny on Earth. She looks at the coin and says: "Eagle, this is fortunately." We manage to see the profile in the frame. Before us is the so -called Linkolovo Penny, a penny on which the president’s profile was depicted. The irony of this part does not appear immediately. When a lumberjack appears from the air in New Mexico (nameless, but the only one that we can discern close and in detail), then we notice in his profile an obvious resemblance to the linkoal. The role was played by Robert Throwing-a construction worker, which from some point began to earn a living, appearing on the stage and in the cinema in the role of Abraham Lincoln: it is extremely similar to him. Then he attracted the attention of Lynch. Turning to his beloved topic - doubles - as an ominous mystical killer, the director deduces the impersonator Lincoln, the most revered American president. The dark side of America and its hidden dualism here are manifested with devilish power. At the same time, we involuntarily recall the ghostly victory of the South in the American Civil War, which became one of the parallel plots in the second season Twin Pixes.

So, as in the mystical scene on the shores of the Lilac Sea, we again deal with the clash of good - love, tenderness, fragility of two young people - and absolute irrational evil, which carries the lumberjack. So far, the advantage is on the side of evil: the lumberjack captures the radio station, fascinates the audience with his spell and helps the terrible creature to infiltrate the girlfriend.

As for the poem itself, its meaning - as it should be in magical practices - will remain foggy. Only in part it can be assumed that water and well quench thirst (love or knowledge). The well is deep, the water in it is difficult to reach - is it not about the forbidden drink, for the touch to which the violator will pay reckoning? Otherwise, why is it “quenching thirst”, you have to “leave”? The “white eyes” of the horse, which “is dark inside”, is an obvious dualism of external and internal, light and dark. Sarah Palmer and Curler in Black Wigwam was a white horse - the visualization of the expression “nightmare”, “nightmare”, literally “night mare”, and a possible reminder of the “horse pale” from the revelation of John the Theologian. By the way, when the lumberjack dissolves in the darkness in the final, horse neighing is heard from it.

It is also important that evil spreads through radio waves. On the one hand, Lynch here recalls its obsession with technology (but in their pristine, not modern form), on the other hand, the power of the invisible, which is irresistible, unlike the power of a blow or a shot directly affecting the physical body. With the same ethereal - remote - and therefore a nuclear explosion looks with irresistible evil.

Why does the lumberjack, who have a cigarette in the teeth, asks the passers -by “Light”? Obviously, the mystical forces in Twin Picks are organically connected with the forest and wider, a tree (the Obit Hotel Hotel “Greeite Noters”, the center of Twin Pixes is a sawmill, revelations are affected by a log, a source of wisdom in Black Wigwam is an “electric” speaking tree, etc.). Lumberjack in English-Woodsman. You can translate this both as a “forester” and as a “wooden person”. At the same time, the lumberjacks represent the element that destroys the tree - fire (and remind of Bob’s spell - “fire, go with me”). The deadly fire is also an explosion of an atomic bomb, in the core of which we plunge in the eighth series. You can recall other fires or explosions (on a sawmill, at the Miss Twin Peaks contest, in the bank), which led to tragedies and destruction in the first two seasons.

The forest in its pristine form, rooted, eternal, more ancient than any manifestations of human civilization, embodies the element of the Earth. And the wind and fog, walking along the tops of the trees in the screensaver to the series , are a reminder of the air that brings changes. Finally, water - a waterfall from the same screensaver, the river that brought the body of Laura Palmer - embodies the unstable nature of time. Therefore, you can not drink from the well with impunity.

Obviously, the frog-mod is a magical creature belonging to several elements at once (air, water and earth). The lumberjack and obedient to his will, which is obeying with the destructive fire, crawls into the girl’s mouth. In principle, this could remain a symbol that does not have a plot weight, but the books written by Mark Frost about Twin Pixe give a direct answer to the question of this nameless heroine. Before us is Sarah Palmer, the mother of Laura Palmer, in his youth. Thus, the natural evil is mixed to the golden soul of the not born girl, which predetermines her future fate.
