In the village of Sindor in the Komi Republic, a terrier distracted a wolf from a child playing in the snow. The dog died, Komiinform reports.
The head of the Sindor administration, Nikolai Halak, said that the wolf was spotted on Vostochnaya Street on the evening of December 21. There are three private houses in that place. Three children were playing hide and seek on the street; one of the boys hid in a snowdrift. The camera caught the moment when a wolf crept up to a snowdrift. At that moment, the dog ran out of the yard and ran towards the wolf, barking. The wild animal grabbed the terrier in its teeth and carried it away; the boy got scared and ran into the yard. The neighbors ran out at the dog's squeal and drove the wolf away.
The wolf has not been seen in the populated area since December 21, Halak said. The village administration notified the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic and the district administration about the incident. If a wolf appears in the village again, a team of four hunters will arrive there.
