Tesla sold a record number of electric cars in a year - almost half a million

Tesla sold 499,550 electric vehicles in 2020, according to the manufacturer's report.

The company has almost fulfilled the goal that Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk had previously set - he expected that 500,000 electric cars would be sold in a year.

In the fourth quarter, the company delivered 180,570 vehicles, more than analysts expected, who had expected deliveries of 174,000 electric vehicles, according to the Financial Times.

For the year, Tesla produced 509,737 electric vehicles.
