To cleanse this and neighboring beaches, stretching for 15 kilometers, the government had to attract the police and the military: in total, they took out more than 30 tons of garbage, of which two -thirds made up plastic waste. Indonesia, which owns the spa island, is one of the world leaders in plastic garbage: annually in the rivers and in the ocean there are dropped up to 200 thousand tons of plastic. In the winter months, due to the dominant winds that blow from Java-the very populated island of Indonesia-the western coast of Bali is regularly littered with garbage. In addition to the beach of Kuta, on the same side of the island, for example, the Padang-Padang beach, known for the film "Eat, pray, love."
