
The human rights activist, a historian scientist, candidate of historical sciences Mikhail Rogachev died the day before in St. Petersburg. He was one of the founders of the Memorial Society in Komi. The time and place of the funeral will be known later.
According to relatives, Rogachev died at the St. Petersburg hospital from complications after a coronavirus infection.
Mikhail Rogachev arrived in the Komi Republic in 1975 by distribution and worked as a teacher, later a researcher at the ethnography department of the Institute of Language, Literature and the History of the Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 1989 he took part in the work of the Memorial Society. For a long time, he was the chairman of the board of the Syktyvkar public organization Memorial, as well as the chairman of the board of the Komi Republican Charitable Public Fund for victims of political repression "Repentance".
