“That’s strange, well, it’s time to get to work.” Elon Musk became the richest man on the planet

Entrepreneur Elon Musk has become the richest person in the world with a fortune of $188.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg online index.

Shares of one of Musk’s companies, Tesla, have grown by 743% over the past year and continue to rise in price. On January 7, Tesla securities rose on the stock exchange by another 4.8%.

The billionaire himself reacted to these messages only on Twitter. He responded to a post from the Tesla Silicon Valley electric car community with two posts: "How strange" and "Well, time to get to work."

Musk is $1.5 billion ahead of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who hasn't been ranked number one since 2017. Back in early 2020, Musk had $27 billion and was at the very bottom of the top 50 billionaires.

Tesla generated $150 billion in Musk's wealth, considered the fastest fortune in modern entrepreneurial history.

Bloomberg notes that Bezos lost a significant part of his fortune after his divorce from writer Mackenzie Scott. With a different outcome of events, Musk could not overtake the head of Amazon.
