Apple, Google and Amazon block the popular social network Parler among Donald Trump supporters.
Alphabet was the first to announce the removal of Parler from Google Play on Friday. Google's parent company explained its decision by the "ongoing and extreme threat to public safety" posed by Parler. Following her, Apple gave the social network 24 hours to moderate dangerous content, but in the end considered that Parler did not cope with the task.
Amazon has calculated that 98 posts inciting violence have been posted on the social network in recent weeks. As of Sunday, Amazon Web Services is set to stop hosting Parler. This means that the social network will be unavailable to customers until it finds a replacement. The head of Parler, John Mace, has already said that the work of the social network could be interrupted for about a week, writes Bloomberg.
With about 10 million users, Parler has become popular with various extremist groups, including supporters of Donald Trump, since there is practically no moderation on the social network. The social network was used, among other things, to organize the recent attack on the Capitol, after which Twitter decided to permanently block Trump's account.
In its App Store profile, Parler describes itself as "an open-minded, free-speech social network focused on protecting user rights." The actions of IT giants, its head John Matze, has already called "a coordinated attack by IT giants aimed at killing competition in this market."
The United States has opened a criminal investigation into the attack by supporters of the incumbent President Donald Trump on the Congress building on January 6, which killed at least five people. According to Acting District of Columbia Attorney Michael Sherwin, prosecutors will look into the role of everyone involved, including Trump himself. Many of the violators turned out to be supporters of QAnon, a conspiracy movement that gained popularity this year, built around a conspiracy theory of pedophile Satanists that Trump is secretly fighting. The decisive episode of this struggle was to be the day of the “Storm”, when Trump would openly oppose the Satanist Democrats. We talked about where QAnon came from and what its followers believe in here .
