Students of the European University in St. Petersburg wrote an open letter to the organizer of the Dau discussion and its resonance - in the context of the science of society, planned on January 15. In their opinion, the participation of the film director Ilya Khrzhanovsky, declared in the program, “contradicts the values” of the university.

The letter notes that the discussion and assessment of the Dau project is necessary, but the presence of Khrzhanovsky is unacceptable. The authors of the appeal explain this position by disrespect and emotional and physical violence in relation to the filming participants and scandals in which the director was involved.

“The symbolic support of the position of violence and operation, which the university provides, inviting Khrzhanovsky as a speaker at an academic event, is unacceptable. Khrzhanovsky’s participation in discussion turns his activity into a legitimate “position” or “opinion”. ”

In the center of practical philosophy “Stasis”, EU SPb, organizing a discussion, replied that they share the concern of students and are going to discuss the ethical problems of filming the film. At the same time, the organizers noted that they do not accept the “boycott of personalities and ideas”, as this can lead to “the dogmatism and the decay of society into blind platforms to each other”.

In November last year, the Ministry of Culture of Russia refused a rental certificate to the four parts of the film “Dau” - “Dau. Natasha ”,“ Dau. New man, "" Dau. Nora Son ”and“ Dau. Sasha Valera. " Officials referred to the fact that the paintings contain materials that promote pornography. The creators of the project filed a lawsuit to the ministry.

"Dau" began as a film based on the life of Soviet physicist Lev Landau. This project, including a multimedia exhibition in Paris, Ilya Khrzhanovsky created for more than 10 years. He was repeatedly criticized for the scenes of violence, including an episode in which the leader of the ultra -right group Maxim Martsinkevich cuts a pig. It was also reported that psychological experiments were supposedly put on the actors.
