Roskomnadzor asked the media not to write foreign names, surnames and city names in Cyrillic, “consonant with obscene words.” This was reported in the telegram channel of the service.

Roskomnadzor is confident that the translation of such names and titles “often becomes an element of attracting increased attention to media materials.”

As the service noted, the spelling of foreign names and cities does not fall under the law “On the Mass Media,” therefore “the choice of literal spelling <...> always remains with the editors <...> and reflects the level of culture and professionalism of journalists and editors-in-chief.” .

Roskomnadzor asked publications to treat the transcription of such words “from the position of high professional standards and taking into account the perception of the audience, especially children and teenagers.”

A day earlier, the Roskomnadzor office for the Saratov region demanded that the Svobodnye Novosti publication delete a comment under a post where readers played cities. One of the users wrote the name of a Mexican city in Russian. The service considered the comment obscene.
