The Russian government promised to start an experiment with “digital twins” of documents in 2021

In 2021, a mobile application for "digital twins" of frequently used documents will be launched in test mode in Russia. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

“A person will be able to store an identity card, driver’s license, PTS (vehicle passport — approx. Meduza), a certificate of registration at the place of residence in his mobile phone,” the Kremlin’s website quoted Chernyshenko as saying.

At the meeting, Chernyshenko also said that by the end of 2021, 160 public services would be transferred to electronic form.

We are talking, among other things, about the execution of all documents at the birth of a child, appealing traffic police fines, remote conclusion of an employment contract, the official specified.

• In May 2020, the Ministry of Communications (now the Ministry of Digital Development) published a draft resolution on an experiment with the Mobile ID application instead of a passport. It was supposed to be held in Moscow from July 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021.
• The document was then deleted, explaining that a working version of it had been published. The Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications promised to publish a resolution "in the near future." The project page still says that the document has been deleted.
