Navalny detained at Sheremetyevo

Police officers took opposition leader Alexei Navalny away from passport control at Sheremetyevo Airport, the BBC Russian Service reports.

The politician's lawyer, Olga Mikhailova, was not allowed to accompany him.

The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) confirmed Navalny's detention, RIA Novosti reports . The agency noted that the politician was wanted "for multiple violations of his probationary period." Navalny will remain in custody until the court decides on his further preventive measure.

• In January, the Federal Penitentiary Service filed a petition with Moscow's Simonovsky Court to replace Alexei Navalny's suspended sentence with a real one in the Yves Rocher case . The agency stated that Navalny was not fulfilling the duties of a conditionally convicted person and was evading inspection control.
• After Navalny announced his return to Russia, the Federal Penitentiary Service reported that it would “take all measures to detain” the politician. It also became known that Navalny had been put on the wanted list in Russia back in late December for “evading control” from the Federal Penitentiary Service.
