Khabarovsk journalist was detained after trial due to a rally in support of Furgal

In Khabarovsk, after a court hearing, Arsenyevskie Vesti journalist Dmitry Timoshenko was detained. Activatica correspondent Ekaterina Biyak reported this to OVD-Info.

The journalist was taken to police department No. 4. It is not known what violation and for what action he was charged.

Tymoshenko was detained after a hearing on the case of participation in an action that interfered with the work of infrastructure and transport (Part 6.1 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), due to the march on October 24. He was fined 10 thousand rubles under this article, and 500 rubles under the article on disobedience to a police officer (Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code). The journalist was defended by OVD-Info lawyer Mikhail Dudkin.

Before the trial, the journalist spent two days in a special detention center after his arrest . Local residents reported that physical force was used against him.

• Since July 11, 2020, in the Khabarovsk Territory and other regions of the country, rallies have been held in support of the arrested ex-governor Sergei Furgal. Until approximately July 18, the Khabarovsk police made almost no attempt to interfere with the protesters, but later law enforcement officers began to detain the protesters. In the overwhelming majority of cases, they were detained after the protests, including on other days, right at home or at work, after which they were taken to police departments and courts, where they were fined or arrested.
• At the beginning of November 2020, Khabarovsk police actively used the tactic of “sequential arrests” against journalists and bloggers. First, blogger Andrei Solomakhin, known as Angel ID, was detained; after a night in police custody, he spent almost the entire day in court, after which he was returned to the department to draw up new reports. After two more nights in the special detention center, the court sentenced him to 7 days of arrest, and a few days later, 6 days of arrest under another article. Then journalists Dmitry Khetagurov and Dmitry Timoshenko were detained and held overnight in a special detention center. Tymoshenko was released with one day of arrest, while Khetagurov was again detained upon leaving the court and the next day sentenced to 5 days of arrest. After this, two more journalists were detained ; they were filming what was happening in the square. This is a journalist from the Activatica portal Ekaterina Biyak and a journalist from Arsenyevskie Vesti Boris Zhirnov. They ended up in the same “carousel”: they were left overnight, in the morning they were fined 10 thousand rubles each, after which they were again detained for up to 48 hours, charged with “arrest” articles.
