Pfizer pledged 40 million doses of Covid vaccine in poor countries in 2021

The American company Pfizer has undertaken in 2021 up to 40 million doses of the vaccine from coronavirus to poor countries, as well as countries with an average income. The obligation was adopted as part of the COVAX WHO initiative, Interfax reports with reference to the Associated Press (AP).

The company refused to name the cost of the contract. They plan to start deliveries at the end of March after the conclusion of all the necessary agreements.

"We support the Covax mission and are proud that we work together so that the developing countries have the same access as the rest of the world, which will allow us to take another step towards completing this global pandemic," said Albert Burl, General Director of Pfizer.

The head of the global alliance on vaccines and immunization (GAVI) Seth Berkeley called the Pfizer solution "an important step forward towards ensuring equal access to vaccines."

At the same time, 40 million doses of the drug, given that vaccination takes place in two stages, is too few, since Covax is designed to support residents of at least 92 countries.

Covax is a global initiative to ensure equal access to vaccines against the Covid -19 for all countries, regardless of the income level. The initiative was established by WHO.

Earlier, Pfizer announced that at the moment it is building up production and expects to release 2 billion doses of the drug in 2021. Earlier, it was about 1.3 billion.
