The head of the administration of the Pitkiarant district, Dmitry Troshin, wrote a resignation statement on January 22. He took responsibility for an accident on cold water supply networks, which is why more than 10 thousand citizens remained without water for several days. This was written on the page on VKontakte by the head of Karelia Arthur Parfenchikov.
From January 14 to January 19, the residents of Pitkaryans were left without water. Due to severe frosts, the city water supply was frozen and stopped working.
To return the water, it was necessary to build a new reserve branch of the water supply with a length of more than 1000 meters, insulate it, as well as warm and repair the sections of the old water supply system.
During the repair in the area, an emergency regime was introduced, and water was delivered to the city in tankers. However, residents complained about problems with the schedule of cars and huge lines in severe frost.
The Investigative Committee of the region opened a criminal case of negligence. According to the investigation, on the night of January 19 in Pitkiarant, the water supply network was freezing.
