The Government of the Russian Federation proposed to oblige migrants from the EAEU to take biometrics in the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The Russian government proposed to oblige all migrants arriving in Russia "from countries with the possibility of visa -free entry for more than three months" to undergo biometric and medical control. It is primarily about the citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) who come to Russia to work. They want to oblige a medical examination and take biometrics within a month from the date of entry. This procedure will need to go through once to persons aged 18 to 65 years. The exception will be incompetent migrants.

The corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma on February 1, writes RBC .

The explanatory note says that it is necessary to develop a mechanism "ensuring proper control over the temporary stay of foreign citizens." It is proposed to amend two federal law - "On the legal status of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation" and "On state fingerprint registration in the Russian Federation."

According to the authors, due to fragmentary control of the health of migrants who come to Russia on a visa-free regime for a long time, the risk of penetration and distribution in the country of dangerous infectious diseases increases. In addition, the lack of biometric data makes it difficult to search for criminals, terrorists and persons whose stay in Russia is undesirable.

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to attract the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the structures subordinate to it, as well as an authorized unnamed organization to collect data and conduct medical control.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs already proposed to oblige migrants who have been in Russia for more than a month in Russia, to hand over fingerprints, photos, undergo a medical examination and receive ID cards.
