Telegram founder Pavel Durov urged ordinary users not to worry about the ads that the messenger will soon use - the majority will not notice it at all. He listed three positions in which Telegram will remain better than the messengers from which people switch to Telegram:
There will be no ads in private and group chats. It will be allowed only in large channels working for a mass audience. “Users who abandoned their old applications for Telegram will not have more ads in their lives,” Durov said.
Telegram will not have user-targeted advertising — it will be exclusively contextual. “We are convinced that it is immoral to collect personal data of users for the sake of targeting, as WhatsApp - Facebook does.”
The messenger will remove third-party ad networks that have already grown around Telegram. “Users will be able to unsubscribe from ads, but I believe that, subject to privacy, this is a good way for channel owners to monetize - as an alternative to donations or subscriptions, which we are also working on.”
plans to softly monetize Telegram Durov announced in December. Perhaps this would not have been necessary if the project to launch the cryptocurrency had not failed. The story of the creation and failure of TON and Gram The Bell was told here .
