Senate acquits Trump in impeachment trial

The US Senate has acquitted former President Donald Trump in impeachment trials.

Fifty-seven senators voted in favor of impeachment—all 50 Democrats and seven Republicans—with the 67 votes needed.

• The House of Representatives impeached Trump for inciting an insurrection for storming the Capitol . 232 members of the House voted in favor, including ten Republicans, while 197 congressmen voted against.
• Trump's term as president expired on January 20, making him the first president in U.S. history to have his trial continued after leaving office. On February 10, senators voted to rule that the process was unconstitutional.
• If Trump were found guilty, he would never be able to run for president again.
• The House of Representatives previously impeached Trump in late 2018. That time, the charges of obstruction of justice and abuse of power were also rejected by the Senate.
