In Bataysk, the former editor-in-chief of a local newspaper was hospitalized after a search in connection with an embezzlement case.

In Bataysk, after a search, Elena Pivovarova, the former editor-in-chief of the local newspaper Vperyod, was hospitalized. This is reported by "Caucasian Knot".

The search took place as part of a criminal case on embezzlement using official position (part 3 of article 160 of the Criminal Code). According to the investigation, from March 5 to May 30, 2019, Pivovarova provided false information about the targeted delivery of the newspaper and thus, together with an unidentified accomplice, could embezzle about 400 thousand rubles. At the moment, the woman is in the case in the status of a suspect.

During the search, jewelry and home documents were confiscated from Pivovarova. A search was also carried out at the former accountant of the newspaper Ekaterina Avakova. Whether she became the second suspect in the case is unknown.

Evgenia Kaplunova, Pivovarova's representative, told the "Caucasian Knot" that an hour after the start of the search, the former editor-in-chief lost consciousness. Arriving at the scene, paramedics diagnosed a stroke. Pivovarova was hospitalized in intensive care, and later transferred to a hospital. Kaplunova added that the hospital where the woman is being treated is under pressure: the investigators want to interrogate Pivovarova, despite the treatment.

Interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" regional journalists and bloggers believe that the case against Elena Pivovarova may be fabricated due to the editorial policy that the woman formed in the publication: the newspaper published materials critical of the current government. For example, journalists wrote about the monopoly of a food supplier for children's institutions in Bataysk and about the spread of coronavirus infection in the city. At the same time, the newspaper belongs, among other things, to the government of the Rostov region and the Bataysk administration.

On November 12, 2020, Elena Pivovarova was fired from the post of editor-in-chief of the Vperyod newspaper, although the contract with her was concluded until 2025. The journalist considered her dismissal illegal and on December 8 filed a lawsuit for reinstatement.
