Many hoped that the third cassation court would make a fair decision. It was believed that when the case of Yuri Dmitriev would come out of the Karelian judicial millstones, where twice the acquittal of the Petrozavodsky City Court was divided on the decision of the Supreme Court of Karelia, Yuri Alekseevich would be justified. However, Judge Sergey Zhernov at the very beginning of the meeting made it clear that our hopes are in vain. However, outwardly this court looked perfect. The prohibitions on visiting the Petrozavodsk Court and the Supreme Court of Karelia have already become a tradition, but in the third cassation they allowed everyone: not only journalists, but also the public. At the very beginning of a closed meeting, at 11:30, representatives of the media were allowed into the hall. And at the employees of the court, and at journalists and public representatives there were medical masks. Judge Zhernov asked Dmitriev to name his name, date and place of birth. After all, for months we will learn about his life, only from letters by electronic or ordinary mail.

In his comments, lawyer Anufriev noted that Dmitriev’s case went to the federal level, the Russian Foreign Ministry held a special meeting with ambassadors, and the federal channels devoted her programs, where Dmitriev’s image was submitted in a negative form. According to the lawyer, such an information background could not but affect the decisions of Dmitriev’s case: “It is impossible to maintain such pressure to Russian courts today. I cannot give a guarantee that the appeal and cassation courts were independent in decision -making. Such a sentence to Yu. A. Dmitriev, which we heard today, should not be in the rule of law. ”

Viktor Mikhailovich called the accusations against his client unreasonable, artificially invented and incomprehensible than motivated. He intends to file a cassation to the Supreme Court of Russia when he receives a decision of the Third Cassation Court. The time for appeal is not yet limited by law.

According to the lawyer, you should not expect much from the decision of the ECHR. Unfortunately, the European court does not consider criminal cases, does not determine the guilt or innocence of people - only violations of human rights during arrest or trial. “We appealed the arrest of Dmitriev in the ECHR in 2017, but the court has not yet considered these complaints, although during this time there were already two acquittals.
