The winter of 2014 was remembered not only by Kievans. The effect of the events of Euromaidan is felt to this day both in Ukraine and in Russia. Myths about “American cookies” and “atrocities of the Right Sector” are still scaring impressive Russians. The journalist of Novaya Gazeta Olga Bobrova worked on the Maidan in those days. She spoke with people on opposite sides of the barricades, with her own eyes she saw battles: rubber bullets and Molotov cocktails, wounded and killed. She was in the thick of events when Yanukovych was still president, Crimea was “not ours”, and it was impossible to imagine the Russian war with Ukraine. How it all started and why Euromaidan still affects the policy of not only Ukraine, but also Russia, Olga Bobrova explains.
