Roskomnadzor accused Twitter of malicious violation of the law

Roskomnadzor accused Twitter of maliciously violating Russian legislation on prohibited content and threatened the company with fines - first large fixed, and then negotiable.

“In addition to the information of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation about Twitter’s anti-leadership in the dissemination of prohibited information,” Roskomnadzor reported that since 2017, the social network “has not removed 2,862 materials” with illegal content.

• About methods of committing suicide, as well as with calls to commit suicide - 2336 materials.
• With pornographic images of minors - 352 materials.
• About methods, methods of development, manufacture and use of narcotic drugs - 174 materials.

In total, Roskomnadzor sent more than 28 thousand requests to Twitter to remove materials with prohibited information.

• According to Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, for violation of legal entities face an administrative fine of 800 thousand to 8 million rubles. In case of a repeated offense, the amount of the fine increases to one-fifth of the total amount of the company's annual revenue, the department recalled.
• Twitter and other platforms have repeatedly faced claims from Roskomnadzor. In particular, the department planned to fine six social networks for information about a rally in support of Navalny in January.
