The Yaroslavl District Court of Yaroslavl arrested until March 23 the former prisoner of correctional colony No. 1 Evgeny Makarov, who spoke about torture by FSIN officers. Yarkub was informed about this by the press service of the court.
Makarov was detained yesterday on the day the regional court considered complaints against the sentence of prison officers in the case of beating him.
He was accused of theft causing significant damage (clause “c” of Part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code). According to YarNovosti and Yarkub, we are talking about the theft of two bicycles.
In the summer of 2018, when Makarov was still serving his sentence, Novaya Gazeta and the human rights foundation published a video where colony officers tortured him: they beat him on his feet and legs with batons and doused him with water. Because of this, the Investigative Committee opened a case of abuse of power, which involved more than ten employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service.
Makarov was released in October 2018. After this, the court sentenced him to three years of administrative supervision - the former prisoner cannot be on the street after 10 pm or go to rallies. In addition, he must report to the police twice a month.
After this, Novaya Gazeta showed several more recordings of torture of prisoners at Yaroslavl IK-1. After the publication of the latest torture video in February, three former and current employees of the colony were placed under house arrest.
