Mishustin criticized the scientist for the word "workshop". And he offered his own option - Oops, also borrowed!

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin argued with the director of the mathematical center of Novosibirsk State University (NSU) Evgeny Vdovin because of the word "Vorkshop". Mishustin did not like that the scientist used Englishism instead of the surviving Russian synonym.

It was about an impending event at which students are taught research work. “The Russian name of the workshop is a seminar. It seems to me that it is more sonorous and more tunes in fundamental research, ”the Prime Minister said.

In fact, Mishustin is only partly right. The very word "seminar" is Latin, borrowed from Western European languages ​​through Polish. This happened at the beginning of the 18th century. That is, the "seminar", in general, also cannot be considered 100% Russians.

However, the word "seminar" still did not suit one of the participants in the dispute - Evgeny Vdovin. The director of the NSU mathematical center emphasized that the purpose of the preparatory event is to teach activities, and therefore Vorkshop. However, Mishustin continued to stand his ground: “Then you need to say:“ Workshop ”. I am only for the fact that the English terms do not close [Russians]. ”

In the end, Mishustin and Vdovin found a compromise: the workshop eventually became “setting up for fundamental research”, a more sonorous “mathematical workshop”.
