Optical illusions have already bored ... Therefore, here's a sound! What does the heroine say “shameless” - “my father” or “my son -in -law”?

The Moutish designer from Volgograd Andrei Chausheku drew attention to the sound illusion: in the Russian voice acting of the series “Shameless”, in the very first series, the phrase “My Father” clearly sounds. But for some reason, some instead of her is heard “My son-in-law”. At the same time, sometimes during the re -listening, “my son -in -law” becomes “my father”, although the file, obviously, does not change - and voice acting too.

Chaloska subscribers suggested that this is probably due to the device on which the sound is reproduced. Through the speakers of the phone, “my son -in -law” is heard, and “my father” is from a laptop in headphones. According to another version , the whole point is what the listener thinks at that moment (and what expects to hear).

So there is “son -in -law” or “father”?

The original definitely sounds “DAD”, that is, the “Father” should be translated. We asked the installer of the studio of the “Medusa” studio Viktor Davydov to listen to a fragment of the series - and explain what they really say there (and where did “my son -in -law” come from!).

It seems to me that this phenomenon is explained by two factors: the actual similarity of sounds in these two versions of the phrase and our skill to interpret what we hear as words. Those who hear the “son -in -law” accept the soft “T” in the word “father” for “h”. “E” is heard as “I”, and “c” - as “t”. Of course, these are not the same sounds. But, if we talk about the consonants, they are formed (in the mouth) not far from each other. This is heard if you try to pronounce “those” and “zia”, “che” and “t” in a row.

What could contribute to the transformation of the “father” into “son -in -law”? Firstly, the phrase is uttered quickly and sounds on top of the English sound path. The actress of voicing pronounces “mine” and “father” so together that the initial “o” in the second word - especially with English speech against the background - is very difficult to hear. In addition, “E” in the word “father” sounds simultaneously with “A” in the word “DAD”. It can be assumed that the “son -in -law” team perceives this mix as “I” in the word “son -in -law”. Secondly, the sound path was probably compressed, because of which, as I suspect, the soft sound of “T” in the word “father” began to read worse-to such an extent that it can be mistaken for “Z”.

As a result, something like a “Moiz” is heard, which can be deciphered not only as “my father”, but also as “my son-in-law”.
