The European Court of Human Rights is an international body that has legal force among the member states of the Council of Europe. It also includes Russia. Two weeks ago, the ECHR demanded that the Russian authorities immediately free Navalny, but the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation replied that such a decision would not be implemented, and called him "a clear and rude intervention in the activities of the judiciary of the sovereign state."
