The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has not allowed Russia to use Katyusha instead of anthem at the Olympics

The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne rejected the request of the Russian Olympic Committee, which proposed using the song "Katyusha" instead of the Russian anthem at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing .

"The CAS panel considers that [the concept of] 'any anthem associated with Russia' extends to any song associated with Russia or with references to it, including Katyusha," the court's decision, as quoted by the Associated Press, says.

• In December 2019, the World Anti-Doping Agency suspended Russia from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the World Championships, due to manipulation of doping samples contained in the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory database.
• The World Anti-Doping Agency planned to ban Russia from international competitions for four years, but in December 2020, the Court of Arbitration for Sport decided to reduce the penalty to two years. Thus, Russian athletes will not be able to compete under the national flag, as well as use the national anthem and the name of the Russian team until December 16, 2022.
