In Elista, the court dismissed the administrative case against a foreign student who went on a picket

The Elista City Court of Kalmykia dismissed an administrative case under the article on violation of the rules for organizing an action (part 1 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) against foreign student Malik Allamyradov, who went on a picket against the policy of the Turkmen authorities. The acquaintances of the picketer told about this to OVD-Info. The information was confirmed by the human rights center "Memorial" with reference to the lawyer Chara Kulieva.

The case was also dropped against a student from Uzbekistan who filmed the action on video.

Having considered both cases, the court concluded that there was no corpus delicti in the actions of Allamyradov and his friend.

• On February 18, Malik Allamyradov, a third-year student of the Philological Faculty of the Kalmyk State University, went on a picket on the main square of the city with a poster “The Turkmen dictator deprived us of money. This is genocide against the people."
• Allamyradov and the student filming the action were detained and taken to the police station, where they were held for five hours. The policemen argued that as a foreigner Allamyradov had no right to picket. Protocols were drawn up for both detainees. They were told that the court might decide to deport them to Turkmenistan "on the very first flight."
• After that, employees of the administration of the university conducted five conversations with the Turkmen citizen . The student was pressured and threatened with expulsion from the university. During the conversation, one of the officials called the consulate of Turkmenistan and demanded that the student report to the diplomats. Allamyradov turned on the recording of the conversation on the phone, after which the official began to snatch the phone out of his hands. The conversation with the diplomats did not take place.
