Security forces came to search the mother of the coordinator of Navalny's Chelyabinsk headquarters, Artem Yaumbaev, who is a suspect in the case of blocking roads during the protests on January 31. Yaumbaev himself told OVD-Info about this.
The search took place in Magnitogorsk, where the activist’s mother now lives.
“At about six in the morning they started ringing the bell and knocking at my mother’s apartment. She called me to warn me that it looked like they were [going to conduct] a search. That’s exactly what it turned out to be. They showed the resolution, they weren’t rude,” Yaumbaev said in an interview with OVD-Info.
As a result of the search, the security forces did not seize anything from the apartment of the headquarters coordinator’s mother.
A case was opened against Yaumbaev and eight other people under the article on actions threatening the safe operation of vehicles (Part 1 of Article 267 of the Criminal Code) due to a rally in support of Alexei Navalny on January 31. Some of the defendants in the case were searched, everyone was summoned for questioning and they were required to appear.
The head of the headquarters pointed out that during the incident in connection with which the case was opened, he was serving administrative arrest in a special detention center and only came out of there on the evening of February 1.
On January 31, the special detention center also housed other defendants in the case: Alexander Kopyev and Maria Makarova. According to another suspect, Anna Kiseleva, she filmed the procession, but did not participate in it.
Due to the detention of Alexei Navalny, a series of protests took place across Russia. The most massive actions took place on January 23 and January 31. Security forces reacted harshly to the protests: on January 23, more than 4,000 people were detained, and on January 31, more than 5,500 .
In connection with the protests that took place from January 23 to February 2, at least 90 criminal cases were opened across the country. Protest participants were accused of using violence against security forces (Article 318 of the Criminal Code), as well as violating sanitary and epidemiological rules (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Criminal Code), involving minors in illegal activities (Part 2 of Article 151.2 of the Criminal Code), hooliganism ( Art. 213 of the Criminal Code) and other articles.
