The dollar exchange rate on the Moscow Exchange in the evening of March 22 exceeded 75 rubles. This happened for the first time since February 22.
During the day, the dollar has risen in price by almost a ruble. The euro rose in price by almost one and a half rubles and by the close was trading at about 89.4 rubles.
The ruble is depreciating amid a sharp drop in investor interest in emerging market currencies. It is caused by the fact that on March 20, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan unexpectedly fired the head of the country's central bank - two days after the regulator raised the key rate from 17 to 19%. The Turkish lira lost 15% of its value in one day on March 22.
In addition, additional pressure on the ruble is exerted by the expectation of new sanctions from the United States.
