The detention of the Penza governor is actually part of the process over Boris Spiegel, the oldest pharmaceutical company in Russia. Here is her story

On March 21, employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia detained the governor of the Penza region Ivan Belozertsev, as well as businessman Boris Spiegel. Spiegel is the founder and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Pharmaceutical Company Group "BIOTEK".

According to investigators, Spiegel, his wife and director of Pharmacia (part of BiotEC) Anton Koloskov in January - September 2020 gave Belozertsev bribes for 31 million rubles. In the exchange of BiotEk, he gained advantages when concluding state contracts in the Penza region.

Spiegel began to engage in pharmaceutical business one of the first in the country - he founded BiotEk in 1991. In addition, the entrepreneur was the producer of Nikolai Baskov (but it was rather a personal project - the daughter of a businessman, Svetlana, was married to a singer). The Spiegel also made a political career: in 1995 he became assistant to the State Duma speaker Gennady Seleznev, and from 2003 to 2013 he was a representative of the Penza region in the Federation Council.

Now Biotek is among leaders in the supply of drugs and medical equipment to combat coronavirus. The company supplies the drugs "Avifavir" and "Apiplivir", as well as disinfectants. In 2020, the structure became the third largest state order among pharmaceutical companies.

“BIOTEK” is also the only supplier of the expensive drug “Spinraz” for the Circle of Good charity foundation, created by decree of President Vladimir Putin. This medicine is necessary for the treatment of spinal muscle atrophy.
