St. Petersburg avant-garde artist, member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation Gennady Zubkov died at the age of 80. Art critic Gleb Ershov reported this on Facebook; information about this is also available on the Erarta Museum website. Zubkov died on March 20. There is no information about the cause of death.
Gennady Zubkov was not only the most famous student and follower of the artist Vladimir Sterligov, who, in turn, studied with Kazimir Malevich, but also devoted his life to passing on the tradition to new generations. For this purpose, in 1995, Zubkov created the experimental art and research group “Form + Color”.
“Zubkov is interested in the patterns of shape formation; he is interested in the systematics of ways to organize the picture plane, the typology of color relationships, and the historical evolution of pictorial systems. For him, creating a work is a process of discovering and solving a specific plastic problem.”
Zubkov's works are kept in the Russian Museum, the Yaroslavl Art Museum, the Jane Wuchrist Zimmerli Museum of Art in the USA and many others.
