Canada imposed sanctions “for Navalny” against nine Russians

Canada imposed sanctions against nine Russians involved in the poisoning of Alexei Navalny.

According to Canadian Foreign Minister Mark Garneau, the nine sanctioned Russian officials "were involved in the attempted assassination of Alexei Navalny, his persecution and the suppression of civil protests in Russia." The sanctions are in line with those previously imposed by the EU, the UK and the US. In the list:

• Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia;

• Andrey Yarin, Head of the Presidential Department for Domestic Policy;

• FSB director Alexander Bortnikov;

• Russian Deputy Defense Ministers Alexei Krivoruchko and Pavel Popov;

• Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov;

• head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Kalashnikov;

• head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov;

• presidential envoy to the Siberian Federal District Sergei Menyailo.

All of the above are included in the lists of sanctions previously announced by other countries.
