Nikita Alekseev died

Today, March 26, at the age of 68, the artist Nikita Alekseev died.

This was announced by the galleryist Marat Gelman.

Nikita Feliksovich Alekseev was born in 1953 in Moscow, in 1972 he graduated from the department of industrial graphics and advertising of the Moscow State Art School of Memory of 1905, in 1973-1976 he studied at the faculty of artistic and technical design of the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, worked as an illustrator and a designer of books in Moscow publishers.

Since the beginning of the 1970s, he published “Samizdat” books and albums, in 1976-1983 he was a member of the collective action group founded by Andrei, in 1979, he became one of the organizers of the Moscow Archive of New Art, in 1982 he created the Aptart Gallery in his one-room Moscow apartment, where exhibitions, promotions and performans of young artists were held.

In 1986, together with Sven Gundlah, Nikola Ovchinnikov, Sergei Vorontsov and other conceptual artists founded the Art-Russian Upland art project, and emigrated to France in 1987.

In the 1990s he returned to Russia, held exhibitions of contemporary art as a curator, in 1996-2004 he headed the cultural department of the weekly foreigner.

A participant in many exhibitions in Russia and abroad, a scholarship holder of the Foundation of Joseph Brodsky and the American Academy in Rome (2004), nominee for the Prize "Innovation" (2009) and Kandinsky Prize (2010). The works of Nikita Alekseev are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Galey, the State Russian Museum, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and other museum and private meetings in Russia, the USA, France and Germany.
