The St. Petersburg duo "Player of Venkova", consisting of Nikita Venkova and Dmitry Basov, continues to cultivate a special version of the post -punk who took root on frozen Russian soil. On their debut album “Diary for the Hero”, continuity with the songs of Boris Grebenshchikov, “Cinema” and “Spleet” is more distinct than with the British pioneers of the genre . The heroes of the songs of the group live in the era of social networks and use iPhones, but they suffer from the same “Russian” problems as 40 years ago: hopelessness, futility and bad weather, from which it remains to look for salvation only in irony and alcohol.
