In Tatarstan, security forces came to search the house of an elderly nationalist writer

On March 30, in Naberezhnye Chelny (Tatarstan), law enforcement officers came with a search to the seventy-year-old writer and activist of the Tatar national movement Fauzia Bayramova. This was reported by the information and analytical center "Sova".

Investigative actions were carried out as part of the case under the article on incitement to hatred (Article 282 of the Criminal Code), which has been under investigation since June 2020. So far, Sova has no data on what exactly Bayramova was charged with.

“... In general, in her speeches, over and over again, the idea of ​​“decolonization” of Tatarstan is heard, which is not accompanied by any aggressive appeals. The SOVA Center considers it incorrect to set the criminalization of public discussion and peaceful political struggle on issues of the status of regions, since such a course of the authorities leads to unacceptable restrictions on freedom of expression,” SOVA representatives write.

The activist herself considers the criminal prosecution to be pressure for participating in the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Kazan during the capture of the city by the troops of Ivan the Terrible, which took place on October 12, 2019.

In the wake of this event, the writer has already been brought to administrative responsibility - she was fined 10 thousand rubles under the article on inciting hatred (Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

• In February 2021, Fauzia Bayramova was fined 30,000 rubles for speaking at a scientific conference. “In my speech, I quoted from the work of Hadi Atlasi, where he says that the people will survive if only they have their own state,” Bayramova said.
• In 2014, Bayramova was sentenced to a year of probation for inciting hatred or enmity (Article 282 of the Criminal Code). The charges are based on two Facebook posts. One was devoted to the events on the territory of Ukraine, including in the Crimea, the other - to the persecution of peaceful Muslims in Tatarstan.
• In 2010, Bayramova was also given a year of probation after she was accused of distributing a resolution of the Tatar national parliament.
