Four participants in a rally of solidarity with protesters in Belarus were detained in Moscow

In Moscow, four participants in a solidarity rally with protesters against the regime of Alexander Lukashenko were detained near the Belarusian embassy. The detainees themselves told OVD-Info about this.

Andrei Domunyan, Svetlana Mishurova, Elena Bolotnikova and another participant in the action were taken to the police department in the Basmanny district.

• On August 9, 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus. According to authorities, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko received about 80% of the vote, while opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya received about 10%. Residents of Belarus, outraged by the official results, took to protest in several cities. Belarusian law enforcement officers used tear gas, stun grenades, rubber bullets, and water cannons against the protesters.
• The human rights center "Viasna" reports that since the beginning of the Belarusian protests, more than 30 thousand people have been detained. Human rights activists also reported at least 500 recorded cases of torture in connection with detentions.
