“We would like to solve the problem. We don’t know how yet.” Amazon on its drivers having to urinate in plastic bottles

Amazon has responded to reports that its employees are being forced to urinate in bottles because they otherwise can't keep up with package deliveries.

In a post on its website, Amazon acknowledged that the company's drivers are facing a similar problem. The statement said they are having difficulty finding toilets due to traffic and rural routes. “And this was especially noticeable during the [pandemic] covid, when many public toilets were closed,” Amazon said.

This is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that is not specific to Amazon. <...> Despite the fact that this is an industry-wide problem, we would like to solve it. We do not yet know how, but we will look for solutions.

The company also apologized to Wisconsin Democratic politician Mark Pokan, who raised the issue on Amazon News on March 25. In response, representatives of the company in their tweet called the “stories about bottles” a lie. This, in turn, generated a lot of feedback from users and several publications in the media, which confirmed the existence of the problem and strongly criticized Amazon for treating employees in this way. The company has now admitted that its earlier claims were wrong.
