Hunting for killers

When Mark Williams-Tomas came to the police, he was only 19 years old, and he thought that he would devote his whole life to this, but at 31 he decided to change the sphere of activity. By a happy chance, he got on television as a consultant to the scriptwriter of the television show of crimes. Mark coped so well with his work that he soon began to advise the scriptwriters of almost all the criminal shows who came out on two large British channels. After some time, he again changed his profession and became a journalist-investigator who works to this day. So, relatives of the dead or missing people who did not receive help from the police began to turn to him.

It is not easy to put a person in jail. It is even more difficult to free him from there. Recently I took up a completely atypical case for my investigations. Usually there is some evidence, sometimes a suspect; There is a body, perhaps even a murder weapon. There are police materials and reports of forensics who can help to go to the suspects. The victim’s family willingly accepts my help, and together we are working to collect enough evidence for the arrest and subsequent trial of the suspect.

As I said, this is usually happening. But not this time.

This murder occurred some time ago. There is a murder tool, a motive is known. Even the suspect was established, arrested, put down on court and found guilty. The victim’s family is convinced that a real culprit was behind bars, and is not interested in the matter to be openly openly. The convict for the murder is serving a lifelong sentence with a minimum period of imprisonment for 14 years. This is her family turned to me for help.

I believe that a judicial error occurred, and intends to prove that the woman who was behind bars is not guilty of this murder.

And I think so, among other things, due to obvious inconsistencies between the reports of the forensic expert and photos from the scene of the crime. The reports say that the victim resisted, as evidenced by the wounds characteristic of self -defense; About 43 cut wounds on her body, some of which were deep. On the other hand, the photographs capture a room where the full order reigns and there are no traces of the struggle, as approved in the reports.

Harmokhinder - all her name was Mindy - Sanger studied for dental equipment at the University of Birmingham. A round excellent student, she was in her third year, when in May 2007 she was arrested for the murder of San Ali, wife Sair Ali. Sair was a guy Mindy. He married a cousin in 2006, despite the fact that he had been in a relationship with Mindy for two years. The dignity is eight years younger than her husband and at the time of the murder was at the 11th week of pregnancy. She was only 17.

On the day of the death of Sana, March 11, Mindy headed for her to talk about her relationship with Sair. Later, having come home, she told her parents that she went to the dignity. Upon learning that they had found the sanctuary, she contacted the police to report that she was in her house on the 11th and talked to her.

According to Mindy, she went to the house and entered through the back door. She told three people that she was going to see Sina, including her friend, she was contacting on a mobile phone before entering. Having stepped over the threshold of the house - Sana invited her to enter - she took off her shoes and left her at the black entrance. Knowing that the dignity was pregnant, Mindy offered to close the window in the kitchen, and she had to climb barefoot on the table.

According to Mindy, after that she told Sanya about her relationship with Sair, to which she replied that he was in the course of his betrayal-though she thought that with someone else. Shana allegedly admitted to Mindy that she cuts herself to cope with the stress caused by marriage.

The report, published in 2018 by the British Medical Journal, states that over the past 20 years there has been a stable increase in cases of self-overlap, and most often teenage girls are prone to this. It is regrettable, but, according to the same study, those who cause damage to themselves, nine times more often they perform suicide “in the subsequent period”.

After talking with Sina, Mindy left, and closed the door behind her. Mindy again called her girlfriend sewed and headed home.

Analysis of the mobile phone of Sana showed that between 14:15 and approximately 16:07, when Sair’s sister came home, she received a total of 21 calls and a text message from various family members. The call to the rescue service, made at 16:07 sister Sair, was written: "It seems that my daughter -in -law killed herself." The doctor told the police that when the ambulance arrived, Sana was still warm, and there was a chance to reanimate it.

According to the prosecution, Mindy came, convinced her to the sanctuary, stabbed her, and then left the house through the window in the kitchen, which explained the closed door.

The main evidence of the prosecution was Minda's legs, left by her on the table near the window. At the same time, one of the prints was directed to the window, and the second - towards the room. This corresponds to Mindy’s testimony that she put one leg on the table to close the window. The forensics failed to find any traces indicating that Mindy really crawled through the window - a total of 123 trace evidence was found, but there was no DNA of Mindy for any. Mindy's father shot a video where he clearly demonstrated that a man of growth and physique Mindy could not crawl out the window without leaving any traces.

The police said that in studying, Minda had access to equipment, well familiar to everyone who watched the series about forensics like CSI or “resurrecting the dead”. They claimed that there were no traces of blood on her hands and clothes, because it was dressed in a full protective suit, mask and gloves, and put on white shoe covers on top of the shoes. She got rid of the costume, according to their version, in the sick leave, whose work was to familiarize themselves with the training course. None of these assumptions were supported by any evidence.

The court was carried out based on the fact that Sana was killed, and did not commit suicide. This implied the presence of a killer that could be Minda or another, unknown person. There were only indirect evidence against Mindy; A forensic examination did not establish her direct connection with the murder of Sana. The knife left at the place of the crime near the body of Sana could be bought anywhere in Birmingham, it was not possible to connect it with Mindy: there were no prints or traces of DNA on it.

Nevertheless, the jury found Minda guilty by most votes, and she was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Sair, admitted in court that he had sinned, left the country to "try to start life from scratch." I am concerned about a number of facts related to how evidence was collected and used in court. Most of all the issues caused the crime scene itself. In the photographs taken in the bedroom, where the corpse of the Sana found, it was clear that the room was in full order, not counting the puddles of the blood on the floor. The bed was seasoned and almost not dented, which was contrary to the wounds described in the reports of the scene of the struggle described in the reports, after which the wounds showed about self -defense. There were no traces of blood in the house anywhere else.

A specialist in the trail of blood, who got acquainted with photographs from the scene of the crime, concluded that, judging by the location of the puddle, Sana sat on the edge of the bed, while blood flowed out of the cuts in her arms. She had two heavy wounds: on her chest and stomach. According to this specialist, after the wound of the chest was received, the dignity fell on the bed, sat down again, took off her jacket and, after the abdomen wound, bent forward. Then she fell to the floor, and a puddle of blood formed under it (mixed with liquid from the abdominal cavity), after which she rolled onto her back - in this position she was found by the paramedics of an ambulance.

Earlier on that day, Mindy was refueling the car, and on the records from the video surveillance cameras at the gas station it was clear that she was in the same clothing in which she later headed for the dignity. Upon returning home, Mindy hung clothes in the chair, and three days after the death of Sana, the police seized her during his arrest. In no subject to Mindy’s clothes, the media of the blood of the sangs were found. The police did not have any evidence that, as they claimed, a protective costume was wearing on it.

This is only one of the aspects of the case, which, it seems to me, was not properly considered. Why, for example, so many attempts were made on that day to contact Sana? Was the fact that her relatives were sincerely worried, that she could cause serious harm to herself?

Analysis of the mobile phone of Sana showed that she not only received calls, but also called Minda herself after the departure (we know when she left, she sewed her telephone conversation with her friend). Who then called from her phone?

Mindy herself told her parents that Sana had, she reported this to the police. Once with the death of San, no evidence connected her, why did she need to substitute herself? And if she really put on the protective costume of the criminal, what on earth would she take it off to leave her legs on the kitchen table near the window? Windows on which no traces were found that someone climbed through it. Windows, whose curtains remained untouched. The police had to somehow prove that Mindy really left the apartment through the window, because (the front door, I remind you, was locked from the inside), only so they could confidently say that the dignity died before Mindy left.

Soon, together with David Wales, we will file an application with the criminal revision commission and hope to achieve a review of her sentence. Our ultimate goal is to send her case to the court of appeal. The criminal revision commission is an independent body designed to deal with judicial errors. When revising the case, the task of the commission is to determine whether there is a real possibility that in the case of transferring the case to the Court of Appeal, he recognizes the sentence doubtful. I was always sure of Mindy's innocence. Too many questions remained unanswered, and the court verdict looks like a complete nonsense. I hope we succeed.
