
The Supreme Court of Karelia canceled the decision of the court of first instance and recognized the session of the Sortavalsky District Council on November 16, during which Sergei Krupin was elected the head of Sortavala. This was written by the government publication "Republic".

According to the court, the deputies held the first session at which they elected the head of Krupin, illegally - before the decision of the territorial election commission. The Supreme Court considered that Krupin was elected the head illegally.
In 2019, the Karelia authorities decided to unite two settlements - Sortavala and Heel. But local deputies were divided in a position on the accession of the region. As a result, the Karelia authorities for formal reasons dismissed the council of deputies. The new council of deputies voted for the resignation of Krupin.
Krupin refused to free his office after a resignation decision. The skirmish between him and the deputies grew into a brawl. The conflict had to be resolved by police officers. Later, the court restored Krupin in his position, and the Supreme Court confirmed this decision.
