The Central District Court of Volgograd granted the investigator's petition to transfer 14-year-old schoolboy Yaroslav Inozemtsev from the pre-trial detention center to a psychiatric hospital. This was told to Novaya Gazeta by lawyer Andrei Gordeev.
According to the decision, Inozemtsev will be in a medical institution of a closed type. The defense plans to appeal the court's decision.
“The meeting took place in such a way that for the first time in my practice, and for the first time in general, somewhere in my life, the mother of a minor practically begged the court to leave her child in a pre-trial detention center. <...> I also supported this position and begged by all available means to leave him in a pre-trial detention center. Usually our job is to ask the court to go on house arrest or something like that, ”Gordeev said.
He explained that at the meeting he asked questions directly to Inozemtsev, so that the court would understand that the teenager was sane and adequate, although the conclusion of the forensic psychiatric examination says otherwise. According to the lawyer, if Yaroslav is placed in a medical institution, the teenager will lose the right to prove his innocence: “For everyone: for the investigation, the court, the prosecutor’s office, and so on, he becomes an insane person. And since he is insane, no one will listen to him.”
Gordeev added that in the current situation, the investigators no longer have the obligation to check the version of Inozemtsev's innocence. Also, the investigator, according to the defense lawyer, said that they wanted to put Yaroslav in the hospital on the basis of the findings of the examination, although there was no evidence of the inadequacy of the teenager.
Yaroslav Inozemtsev was detained in June last year. According to the FSB, the teenager was preparing to attack the school. As evidence in the case, only the testimony of Inozemtsev's friend and the picture with the "Kerch shooter" on the desktop of the computer appear.
