How the war in Donbass began

Seven years after the start of the war in Donbass, active hostilities may resume in the region again.
The acute crisis in the south-east of Ukraine began with the active intervention of Moscow at the end of February 2014, but it did not immediately turn into a war.
In fact, it began after a failed attempt by separatists and volunteers from Russia (both of them, however, called themselves militias) of the Donetsk airport building on May 26, 2014.
The shiny new concrete glass terminal was a symbol of wealth in Donbass, one of the richest regions of Ukraine. In the early morning of May 26, the airport was still operating regular flights, but in the afternoon it was already being fired upon from heavy guns.
At the time of the clash, Olga Bobrova, a journalist from Novaya Gazeta, was not far from the airport. Together with the locals, Olga found herself in a deadly situation.
