The prosecution requested eight years in prison for Pavel Green-Romanov, a native of the Lugansk region, in the case of using violence against a representative of the authorities at a rally in support of Alexei Navalny on January 31. This was reported by OVD-Info with reference to the legal aid coordinator Anna Romashchenko.

“I came [in defense of Grin-Romanov] when the case was already in court, the client admitted that he used violence against the National Guard, but I do not agree that it harmed his health. According to my client, there other Russian guards beat a man next to his wife, so he instinctively just sprayed them in their direction, ”said lawyer Artem Nemov.

Grin-Romanov is accused of using life-threatening violence against the security officer (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). The investigation believes that on January 31, on Komsomolskaya Square, he sprayed pepper spray in the face of the National Guard. Grin-Romanov fully admitted his guilt and agreed to a special procedure for considering a criminal case.

Actions in support of Alexei Navalny, which took place throughout Russia on January 23 and 31, were accompanied by clashes with security forces in many cities. After the rallies, law enforcement officers opened dozens of criminal cases on attacks on government officials. Some defendants have already been sentenced, a number of them received real terms.
