A resident of the Volgograd region was sentenced to a year in a penal colony because of a comment on VKontakte.

The Volgograd Regional Court upheld the sentence of Vyacheslav Alikov, a resident of the city of Kamyshin, who was sentenced to one year in a colony-settlement because of a comment on VKontakte. This is reported by the joint press service of the courts of the region, information on the case is also published on the website of the regional court.

Alikov was found guilty under the article on incitement to extremism on the Internet (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the initiation of the case was the comment of the man, which he left in the group "Russia against raising the retirement age."

According to investigators, Alikov's statement contains calls "to commit active violent actions against representatives of government bodies" and "groups of persons motivated by national hatred or enmity." The defendant pleaded guilty.

The case was investigated by the local department of the FSB.

Alikov was sentenced by the Kamyshinsky City Court in February.

The defense appealed the decision of the court and asked to dismiss the case, as well as to release the man from the court fine. Lawyers drew attention to the fact that the defendant made a public apology for the comment and transferred three thousand rubles to a charitable foundation.

According to the regional court, these actions of Alikov cannot “compensate for the negative changes” that the man caused by his act. The verdict came into force.
