A group of deputies of the European Parliament from different countries and various political factions on Thursday made a statement in connection with the latest messages about the situation with the Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, who holds a hunger strike in the colony, seeking to provide the necessary medical care.
The statement states that the deputies are “amazed and deeply concerned” by the news about the state of health of Navalny and the conditions in which he is located. “Just six months ago, he survived an insidious attempt using a neuro-paralytic poison,” the authors of the statement recall. "In conclusion, he is systematically refused medical care, in addition, the guards wake him up at night every hour, that his lawyers are evaluated as torture by depriving sleep," the statement said. The authors refer to the statements of Navalny himself and his lawyers about the situation in colony No. 2 in Pokrov, the Vladimir Region, where the Russian oppositionist is located. The Russian authorities and the Federal Penitentiary Service deny that Navalny’s rights to receive medical care are infringed.

Members of the European Parliament called on Russia to provide Navalny medical care and free it, and the EU countries and the EU Council - to achieve these requirements. In addition, they called the EU ambassador to Russia, together with the ambassadors of Britain, Canada and the EU, visit the colony and meet Navalny there.
The application was signed by about 80 members of the European Parliament, mainly from the countries of Central Europe and the Baltic, also from France, Germany, Spain and other EU states.
For more than a month, Navalny has been complaining of severe back pain, loss of sensitivity of the limbs. The day before, it became known that the doctors of colony No. 2 reported a policy that two hernias were discovered on an MRI.
Navalny’s lawyer Olga Mikhailova said that the opposition, in addition to problems with his back and legs, began to disappear, and the body temperature ranges from 38 to 39 degrees. At the same time, the politician continues the hunger strike with the demand to allow a civilian doctor to him and drinks only water.
Previously, Navalny was transferred to the prison medical unit due to "symptoms of acute respiratory disease."
