Boeing warns of new 737 MAX problems related to the planes' electrical system

Boeing has warned of potential problems with some 737 MAX aircraft.

The problem is related to the aircraft's electrical system. Boeing said it had already contacted 16 airlines with a recommendation to suspend flights until the investigation is completed, and also stressed that it was cooperating with the US Federal Aviation Administration.

Following the planemaker's announcement, three airlines — Southwest Airlines Co, United Airlines and Alaska Air Group — confirmed they had grounded the 737 MAX.

• The 737 MAX is Boeing's newest jetliner. In March 2019, the planes were grounded worldwide after two crashes killed 346 people. The 737 MAX grounding was lifted in November 2020.
• Amid the grounding of the 737 MAX and the resulting halt in its production, Boeing reported its biggest loss in the company's century-long history in 2020.
