50 years ago, the 24th Congress of the CPSU took place, at which Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev spoke with the "Peace Program". But only one of its points was fulfilled - the Helsinki agreements were signed, which consolidated the status quo of European borders.

These were strange years: the economic reform of the chairman of the Council of Ministers, Kosygin, made it possible to end the most successful five-year plan before subsequent stagnation, the USSR began non-public negotiations with the FRG on the possible mutual recognition of the two Germanys, and even the question of dissolving the Warsaw Pact was raised.
